Some people have large kitchens in their home with plenty of space, whilst others are short on room. If you have a small kitchen then chances are that you might think that there is nothing that you can do to make the room look and feel bigger.
However, you would be wrong. Thankfully, there are lots of ways that you make sure that your kitchen, no matter how small it is, looks as big as possible.
Make the most of every inch of worktops that you have
If you have a smaller kitchen, then you are likely to have less worktop space. This isn’t great if you are the type of person who loves cooking and creating dinners at home. The great thing about worktops is that there are things that you can do to make the most of them. There are add on worktops that you can buy to help with creating more space and you can also include a slide out worktop extension, or even buy a piece of worktop that will slot over your sink to create even extra space.
Never block a window
Windows are important for any small room in your home. They let in light and they help the entire space feel brighter and bigger. It is a good idea to limit how much you block those windows up, so maybe locate the sink under the window, even better, if you really want to let in as much light as possible, then you might want to consider installing skylights into the space if you can.
Go for handle free drawers and doors
Handles are of course useful, but not when you want to make sure that you create a sleek and clean look in your kitchen. This is why handle free designs are becoming more and more popular. Not only do they make sure that your entire kitchen flows, but it also stops you from catching yourself when you have to negotiate your smaller than average kitchen.
Choose multi-functional appliances
Appliances are the biggest part of your kitchen and take up the majority of space in the room. If you are worried that you are not going to have enough space in your kitchen for them all, then you might want to consider multi-functional appliances. Choose a fridge and freezer that is all in one, opt for a washer that also comes with a dryer and go for a microwave that can steam cook too. You could even take this one step further and go for taps that have a built in boiling water tap, which will mean that you don’t need a kettle!
Use all the space
Now, we know that this may defeat the object of having a small kitchen, as, after all, you are short on space. But it is a good idea to use absolutely all of the space that you have in the room. Install cabinets that go right up to the ceiling and as many worktops as you can. This will help to make the most of every inch that you have and create a seamless and functional kitchen.
As you can see, there is still plenty that you can do with a small kitchen. It might just mean that you need to think outside of the box when it comes to how you design it and the things that you install.
