Boiling water taps, Should i get one ?

It seems that as time goes by, more and more modern additions pop up in kitchens. Self cleaning ovens, warming drawers and smart fridges are just some of them, however, there are plenty of great things that you can choose to have in your kitchen.

One of the smaller, yet still incredibly useful options is the boiling water tap. But what are they and why are they such a good option?

What is a boiling water tap?

As the name suggests, the idea of a boiling water tap is that it looks like a normal tap, and is usually alongside your regular taps. However, at the press of a button, you don’t just get hot or cold water, you also get water that is instantly at boiling point. As if you had just boiled a kettle.

They do this thanks to an insulated tank and boiler unit located underneath the space where the sink sits. They usually hold around 2 litres, which usually functions as the filtered cold water tap, if you have one on your sink. The water will also pass through the boiler and then come out of the tap as the boiling water that you can then use.

Why are they such a good idea?

Boiling water taps may sound like somewhat of an extravagance, however, they actually are a great addition for your kitchen. This is especially true if you are the type of person who loves nothing more than a beautiful cup of tea, but that doesn’t like to wait around for the kettle to boil.

Of course, a boiling water tap is great for those who don’t want to wait around for their morning brew, however, they actually have many more uses. They are great if you are trying to thaw frozen food, if you are boiling up pasta or vegetables or perhaps even to give a hot blast to your washing up.

They are also great for those with babies, as at the touch of a button you have water that can be added to a sterilised bottle, ready to feed your little one.

Anything else I should know?

One concern that many people have about boiling water taps is whether or not they are safe. The majority of these taps come with additional safety features which means that you can have peace of mind that your children, as well as any visitors who may not know you have a boiling water tap, are protected from being scalded or burnt.

They are also incredibly cost effective. Boiling a kettle every time you want a cup of tea can use up the electricity, especially since most people tend to boil far more water than they actually need. A boiling water tap tank will contain enough water to make around 25 cups of tea an hour (which is a challenge if you ask us) and every time it needs to re-heat the water, which isn’t often due to the insulation within the tank, it only takes minimal energy and around 10 minutes.

If you are someone who loves a hot cup of tea, or simply someone who wants to make food prep as quick as possible, then you may want to consider a boiling water tap for your kitchen. It definitely makes for the ideal addition and is incredibly useful too.
